By around 3000BC, small settlements had formed along the coastal region of today's Ecuador, Peru and Colombia. These people were the early ancestors of the [G 11 / Inca].
Inhabitants of these villages fished and cultivated cotton, chilli peppers, beans and squash. They made cotton cloth using twining and weaving, and crafted jewelry from bone and shell. One of these settlements was at Chilca on the north coast of Peru. One-roomed houses lined with stone or reeds were also built by these tribes.
